Hi Shannon, I caugth the end of your discusion with Charlie Rose and I am convinced that the Obama admnistration is moving rather, but understoodly, fast in American and South American relations. if America or the west is to compete with the rising power or the east then America must 'tap' into the resources of politics in South America. In a much clear sweep of the meeting in the "Americas' Obama seems to be courting not only the whole world but also 'our freindly neigbors to the south' as a defense to any type of attacks on America, be it abroad or down south. I can truly understand that many regions in the world are eihter economic waste lands, dumps, or are oppressed econmomic areas that may never develope to their full potential. It can be seen in a global economy that America and places in Europe can be considered as countries of ' economic consumers' and Asian economies as 'producers and manufactures of cheap goods.' The mentioned are the basics of economies and economisc of supply and demand, that are 'morphing' daily and upon the force of the 'invisable' hand creating a new 'world order' and are prelude to a new economic system. Obamas 'whirl wind' country and world leader visits were not just drawn up in some think tank or out of a 'whim', but a carefully crafted and repackaged 'America' to the world. Do I celebrate it or do I wonder and say to myself, 'whats really going on? I have always understood that South America has a stong backbone that can't be broken. Its back bone strength is in its raw human capital of labor. Latin America is known by its work ethic ( if trained and invested in properly) and its ability to attact foreighn investments that create the 'maquiladras' in Mexico. Yes, the Americas are a commodity and a resouce to America. With its vast natural resouces that can benifit the world economy it can create a buffer to the ever enroching power of the Euro. Its been a rumor that an equivelant to the Euro is the Amero and what better time to extend and hand to South America which can be a serious competitor to the Euro. It can be seen in the future that this choregraphed and candens of political manovers will produce a new era in the gobal world market. South America stands poised as an untaped potential ready to meet its full ability to a new era. It can be done. Look at China. Watch Europe. And see South Amercia. Thank you for your time, Joe.

Shannon,
Happy holidays!

I am concern that you have a website about Latin America and you don’t have Colombia in.
I am an Architect living in Medellin, and I can show a lot of more than the article wrote by Amity Shlaes
“Medellin Wonders What Pelosi, Sweeney are Smoking” (ashlaes@bloomberg.net)
I invite you to come here and see by your own eyes what is happening in Colombia like Mss Shlaes did.
Saludos
